Continuity

I’m still at it. Yesterday I went through all the dressers, desks, and cabinets to pull out picture frames. Some had pictures, but most were empty. I dispersed the nice frames to the kids. My youngest son wanted some as did my daughter. I’ll take them to her this weekend when I head off to babysit the grandkids while she attends a conference. The others will go to a resale shop. I also discovered another cache of linens. They got bundled with the rest. Ultimately, I’ll need to do something with them as well.

I probably will make space for the linens by downsizing my tee-shirt collection, especially the part that focuses on the Astros and the Houston Cougars. As for the latter, I have enough red shirts of all types that I believe I could go a month and never repeat myself. I also have a large collection of sleeveless tee-shirts for summer wear. Combined, this seems a needless over abundance of old things. I believe there may be people who could use these shirts more than I.

This entire process of discovery and recovery makes me feel good. I like getting things into the hands of the kids, now while I’m still alive. It’s nice to see and hear what they treasure. And I enjoy knowing that these items are going to still growing homes where they will grace shelves and walls for many years to come. And finally, there’s pleasure in touching all the things that comprised the life I led with my late wife and ensuring that the threads of that life will continue on even as I move forward on my own into whatever new life awaits.
