Making Do

It looks as though another dreary day is in store. Not bad for winter, however, and rain in any form is good. So, I’ll take it. I wish there was more volume to the fallen rain. At the moment, I show less than an inch for all the activity we’ve seen over the last several days. There’s been enough to get the burn ban lifted, however, and all over the county piles of wood are going up in flames. I may burn some myself just to feel like a country boy.

I had a good day yesterday. Traveled across two counties to visit friends and their big family. We filled three rooms with tables, kids, adults, and food, and some people were missing. There was a friendly discussion at one point as to whether or not they had deviled eggs at Thanksgiving or Easter. They eventually decided it was an Easter treat. But the acknowledged master of the deviled eggs, bowed to the request and deviled four eggs while we sat and watched. I hereby notify everyone that a freshly deviled egg is terrific.

I will spend most of my day today getting ready for the gathering of the children this evening.  Here’s hoping the weather allows for the fireworks and our little walkabout. It was clear and cold last year. This year it looks as though its all about wet. We’ll see. Sometimes I think a little pocket of hope can act as a high pressure system and keep the rain away. Sometimes. We’ll see how my optimism plays out. All is not lost, however; we can usually see the fireworks from my porch, and we can drive around and look at the lights and get out if it’s dry. I believe that’s known as making do, a most useful trait, in almost all situations and a good lesson to teach a child.
