Night Music

It’s late. The little granddaughter is asleep on the couch. I stayed up late. Listened to music. Made music. Visited with friends. It was a nice, long evening. Not the normal thing for this old body, but good to do every once in a while. Stirs old memories. Prepares me to make new ones. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I’m old, but I’m not dead yet.

No idea what’s in store today. I imagine kids will say happy Father’s Day. I’ll get calls. It will be nice. But it’s always nice because the kids always call. I’ve yet to feel forgotten on any day of the week. We talk all the time. We talk about life. We talk about music. They gripe about work, tell me funny stories, talk about their kids. Every day seems to be my day. A father’s day.

Back to last night. Listened to Beat Root Revival. A bang-up duo. Music made by two lovely people, and I like music made by lovely people because the loveliness infuses the music and then you get some of it in the songs and you can take it home with you. It was the same with the little picker’s circle that gathered after the big music. Just a group of guys singing their songs for one another and the group of our friends who love us and encourage us. It was a sweet way to end the day. Laughter, love, and music. A winning combo.
