Sky Day

I slept hard but not so long last night, and there were no dreams I remember. It was just the usual. Asleep at ten. Awake and two. Asleep at four and awake at six. The latter would probably have been later except for my alarm. Usually on weekends, and especially with the house full of company, I turn off the alarm. I forgot last night. So, it buzzed at me this morning.

Today is the day of the solar eclipse. A cold front is moving through, however, and there are high gray clouds. It might be a semi-disappointing day. Speaking of disappointment, we’ve had none of the expected crowds. The hordes have failed to materialize. Maybe the weather forecast has something to do with it. If you’re chasing the sun, maybe you go where you’ll see the sun. And when word began to spread about our cloud cover that’s what happened.

There’s also the possibility that with everyone predicting a crowd Armageddon for the Hill Country that people decided to go elsewhere because there are lots of places along the path of totality to get a view. The eclipse will be in the US for a fairly long period of time. But that’s neither here nor there. Our local leaders did their best, and that’s all you can ask. At least they were thinking about us in a positive way and trying to keep us safe. Good for them. Now we’ll sit back and see what happens this afternoon. It should be fun.
