Small News

I was dawdling in bed this morning, enjoying the warmth of the covers, when I realized I had to get moving. I had things to do. Well, a thing. Get a haircut. And that reminded me of my favorite bit of word play. The difference between getting a haircut and getting a hair cut. Because sometimes when someone notices I got a haircut and remarks on it, I’ll say, “Yes, can you tell which one?” Silly. I know. But it makes me smile and sometimes it makes the other person smile, or maybe groan. I’ve never really cataloged the responses. Heck, they may just feel I’m being a smartass.

Anyway, I got up and got moving. Fed the cats and now I’m writing. And speaking of cats. I do believe mamma cat has moved next door. There’s a nice lady there who likes cats but has a hard time keeping them. So, apparently mamma cat has decided the solitude of her yard and home better fits her aging spirit. I’m okay with that because the neighbor lady is nice, and it takes my cat population down to a more manageable number. Three. I still see mamma cat, but it’s more like a visit where she just wanders up on the porch to say hello then goes back home. Her new home.

And that’s it for today. A little bit of word parsing and cat news. I wish there was more. An astute observation a piece of wisdom to pass along. But you’d be surprised how hard it is to find wisdom. And sometimes it just feels pretentious. As though I’m making it up. But I’ve met enough people who say they enjoy these morning words, that I do feel a small obligation to give them some value. Although maybe this is today’s value, life is pretty interesting and worth thinking about, even down to the smallest of things.
