Tripping
I’m on the road, staying in the home of friends, trying to move silently through the spaces of a strange place. Keurigs are not the friend of silence. Nor are well used stairs. They creak and pop at inopportune times. I want to be a ghost in the home and let sleepers sleep. Seems to be working so far. We’ll see how it goes.
I’m in town because we went to see another friend, Chad Richard, perform at Anderson Fair, a folk club of some renown home to the likes of Lyle Lovett, Nanci Griffith, and Eric Taylor. It was a splendid show, and our friend performed well to a packed house, which included friends of longstanding and new friends who had only recently discovered Chad. It was an all together pleasant evening and it was nice to be haunting an old haunt.
My travels continue today with a stop at my daughters home. Grand-kids await. They’re buzzing about the upcoming trip to Maine, the son-in-law’s home state. That will be a relief from the heat. It seems as though all my friends are traveling to cool places lately, both literally and figuratively. Good for them. Maybe I should get off my duff and do the same. Maybe I’ll do that this summer. Turn my eyes north. Get in my car. And drive until I need a jacket. Not normally my style, but maybe it’s time for a change.
