A Good Day

Had my eyeballs checked yesterday. I’m back in line for cataract surgery. I can remember when my great-grandmother had cataract surgery and it seemed a minor miracle and I’m pretty sure it involved a stay in the hospital. I should have paid more attention, but I was a kid. Anyway, mine will be a day surgery and all I’ll need is someone to drive me there and back, or at least back.

I’m excited. I wasn’t excited when it was first scheduled back at the end of December last year. I was sick, didn’t feel good, and certainly didn’t want anyone poking around in my eyeball. I’m all better now, except for the occasional psychological wobble. But the latter is just part of my life for the time being, and will eventually straighten itself out, I suppose. I mean, I certainly hope so. Although, it does give me stuff to write about. So, in a sense, it’s good.

Yesterday, as my dilated eyeballs undilated I mostly laid around the house because it felt good pampering myself with endless hours of watching the Masters and napping. I wasn’t really sick, but the bright sun hurt. So, I pulled the shades and stayed inside. In the early evening, I made a jaunt west of town to hear a young musician play. I met him during my open mic adventure last Monday. He’s a nice young man and I met his mamma and sister and some friends who follow him. On the way home, I stopped in the hills south of town to watch the sun go down. It was a nice way to end a good day.
