A Good Day

The bloom of a Marie Pavia antique rose

Yesterday was a day where all the tumblers fell into place, and I unlocked a little joy. I found a letter I needed in my junk email. The city approved my replat. I scheduled my new HVAC service. I found a guy to remove my brush pile, which is taller than me, has more than brush in it, and looked scary to burn. And I watched a group of starlings bathe in my bird bath. To top it all off I went to bed at 9:15 last night and didn’t wake up until 5:30 this morning, which counts as a full night of sleep in my book.

To give all the winning a bit of color, my transplanted Irises are putting on a blooming show, the Eve’s necklace is flowering, as is the Marie Pavia rose by the front porch. Also, I’m in the final stages of pulling up the old landscape cloth and revitalizing a flower bed. The cloth is coming up easily and I’m able to work up a good sweat before sitting on the front porch and letting the breezes cool me. Work an hour, rest for two. The flowerbed rework was a task that felt nearly impossible at the beginning but now is close to offering me the joy of completion. Yeah, for tenacity.

All in all, it’s been a good spring. I found peace in the garden, we got rain and it’s clouding up again today, and my de-cluttering house reorg is making good progress. The latter feels important, because the thought of its completion gives me another rung to grab as I climb the ladder of life. Which reminds me, I need to redo the to-do list that hangs on my bulletin board, because at my age it feels perfectly appropriate to measure out my life with coffee spoons and wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.
