Band Time

I thought seriously about simply skipping my little morning word exercise today. There are children in the house and my writing area is temporarily a bedroom. But what’s the point of having a laptop computer if you can’t put it on your lap and write, which is what I’m doing all comfy with my quilts and high thread count sheets. I miss my coffee, but I think that’s habit more than anything else.

The purpose of the visit is to play music and we’ll get to that after breakfast which at one point in the conversation last night had mutated from scrambled eggs and bacon to Monte Christo sandwiches then somehow, we got onto deep fried French toast, which is now actually on the menu for Sunday. We would have had it this morning except I don’t have any traditionally shaped bread. Long story there.

Now none of us are going to get rich doing this and it is certainly not the Braun Family reunion or any other high-powered musical family. It’s just us with our gear and a willingness to make a joyful noise in the front room, pretty much for ourselves, talking and laughing and playing along with great vigor. The most satisfying aspect for me is that it’s an event that was put in motion more than fifty years ago when their mother walked into a head shop, saw me playing, and came back. If she could only see us now. If only.
