Beans

Mesquite in bloom.

The mesquite is in bloom. I wonder what sort of news that is in the insect kingdom? I’ve yet to notice anyone hanging around on the blossoms. Maybe it’s only the birds who care? That’s how it is with the sumac. The birds love the berries. I imagine with the mesquite the birds love the beans. That could be fun to watch out the back window. I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

I had a nice Father’s Day. My arborist son trimmed the oaks by the drive. I can now mow without banging my head, and now they’re set up to arch. Got nice calls from the other two children in Houston, as well. And some dear friends gave me a cheese grater of a hard to come by variety. I will go buy a block of Parmesan cheese today and grate it and be grateful, and the grates in both words have nothing in common. And fresh Parmesan cheese is nothing to sneeze at, either, in fact it’s a wonder.

Just a second ago, as I took a break to figure out how to end this, I walked over to the window. As I looked at the mesquite a hummingbird came to feed on the blooms, or maybe to just check to see what was up. Anyway, it was bird and that’s a nice dovetail with the first paragraph, and bird reference from woodworking to finish it off. And this morning, I’ll walk around in the cool air and admire the blooms myself and take sustenance of a different sort.
