Busy Days

A view of the hills above Fort Davis, in Fort Davis State Park.

Busy days. I’m getting ready to have my roof replaced. Hail damage. Made it look bad. Nothing structural. Apparently, I had a rider that said they’d replace it if it got dented. I think it bumped up my premium and I don’t remember asking for it. Too late now. The agent is retired and I’m getting a new roof. Oh, well. It will be standing seam, which is a better roof, and I’ll use some of the old tin on a shed.

Meanwhile, I also got a new router. I like my technology to be up to date. My old router was six years old and wonky things were happening. And when my ISP brings fiber to my home I’ll be ready, although there’s no telling when that will happen. To coincide with all of this I updated my laptop from an eight year old model to a three year old model. It was used and I got it for a good price. It has a quad-core processor, twice as powerful as my old dual-core. I am officially the 21st century version of a hot rod geek, except for me it’s computers.

Speaking of new things, I’ll buy new guitar strings today. I like to keep two sets handy. I can remember the days when I waited until the strings rusted before I changed them. Nowadays, I change every time I play in front of people, which strictly speaking is probably unnecessary, but it gets my mind in the right frame. I wonder why it took me so long to get a grip on how good new strings sound? I was probably lacking a mentor, or common sense. And that’s it for today.
