Deep Cleaning

I am reaching deep into every corner of my life and home as I reorganize. Yesterday, I got after the storage area at the end of my workroom. Over the years it became less a place to keep tools than a place to store miscellaneous junk. It is now on its way to fulfilling its original purpose, and the odds and ends are out in the open to be either thrown away or donated. It feels good.

There was the derelict 25 year old chainsaw. The electric power washer. An old line trimmer. An electric leaf blower. Half bags of cement, which had become over time, blocks of cement. There were three plastic spray bottles whose last contents were long forgotten and whose nozzles long clogged. They are all gone. I even swept the floor and vacuumed it with my new wet/dry vac. New hardware adorns the wall waiting on tools. More will come today.

In a touch of poetic beauty, just as I finished the first stage of work a thunderstorm blew in. A hard rain fell. The air was washed clean, my past storage sins were swept away. I rested. Then I drove off to meet my daughter and pick up my grandson. He’ll help me today as I finish my work, then we’ll play. A little swimming this afternoon and tomorrow we’ll have a play date with friends and explore Longhorn Caverns. Fun will be had and my work will be done.
