Finding Joy

Lost track of my joy yesterday. Don’t know where I put it. It disappeared somewhere around mid-morning. It was a gray day from beginning to end. It happens. It’s like misplacing my wallet or my watch. One day its there, the next day it’s gone, and it’s a real puzzle as to where I left it. It will come back, be found, it always does. Sometimes it’s buried under a pile of emotions, sometimes it’s just gone for no discernible reason. It may be, gasp, a chemical imbalance.

We’ll see. I’ll eat a good breakfast today and get out and do more work in and around the house. Physical activity usually helps me find my joy. Of course, my back is a little twitchy from all the other work I’ve been doing, but my sore back and I go back a long way, and we’ve navigated some tough roads together. I imagine we can make it down this one. I usually shy away from pills, but this might call for a spot of relief, and my doctor said that was okay.

Actually, thinking about it in this rather detached fashion helps me deal with it, makes it easier to overcome, makes it a thing I can handle, makes it almost like a decision to wear a brighter shirt, like putting on a happy face. And it looks as though the sun is shining this morning, and that’s a good start, and it should warm up, and that’s even better. So, my joy might be just around the corner, and if it is, it will be good to see it again.
