Forever Day

I have no accomplishments to brag on today, except one. It’s looks as though on November 16 our family will grow by two. Because that will be the day my daughter and her husband formally will adopt the two children they have fostered for the last three years, a boy and girl, brother and sister. Some of you have met them and know they are sweet, sweet children who had a tough row to hoe on their journey to this place.

But that was then, and this is now, and it’s all about the future. And love. We’ve been giving it to them in spades and they’ve responded quite well, as have we. Because giving love is good for you. And I’m proud of my daughter and son-in-law for the work they’ve put in. Both are educators with advanced degrees. Doctorate for him, masters for her. And they’re well suited and well trained for the role they’re now playing. I wish I’d had half the training they had before we started having kids. It would have been really helpful.

Anyway, we’re really excited and its fun having something to anticipate. Like Christmas or birthdays, and now this adoption. I’ve noticed as I get older and the tragedies pile up, I forget to anticipate things or maybe it just gets harder. That’s where kids come in. They’re reflexively happy, and especially so these two new, little ones as they get closer to getting their forever home. This is a big deal for them and I want to make sure it pays off with loads of joy and a strong, strong sense of belonging.
