Growing Cold

Three butterflies on the Gregg's Mist Flower

Things are easing up. My sore hip and leg, tweaked during a week in the Black Hills and Badlands, are recovering. A massage on Monday and a visit to my doctor on Tuesday seem to have done the trick. That and me actually resting rather than trying to work through the pain. I missed a party, missed a dinner, and missed a round of golf with my brother. Sacrifices made in the name of good health.

I did manage a few things around the house. I put in the leaf guards for my new gutters, vacuumed my pool, and walked around looking at things. The latter is an important part of home ownership. You have to walk around and look at things. It’s a job. It’s how you notice what needs doing. And I like doing it. In addition to seeing what needs doing, you can also see how things are going that you’ve already done. Take the bulbs and Salvia I replanted. They’re doing well. That’s a lot of doing on both sides of the ball.

Anyway, it’s a cool morning today. I think Fall is trying to arrive. It’s about time. It’s nearly October. But maybe that’s a more appropriate time for Fall in Texas. That or November. Whenever it comes my long sleeve shirts are ready as is my psyche. I’m ready to wear a jacket and be cold. Not too cold, but cold, maybe chilled would be a better term. Like I said, cold enough to wear a jacket. That seems explicit enough. I guess I’m just a fair weather winter guy.
