Adventures in doctoring. I showed up in a timely fashion on Monday for the scan to check my aneurysm repair only to be told that the machine was down and I’d need to reschedule. So, I did. For the next morning. Early. Once again I showed up in a timely manner and once again was told I needed to reschedule. They found me a slot close to noon at another facility just down the road. I went and got it done. My rescheduled physician’s appointment, which was to follow the first scan, is this afternoon, by phone, at home. Yeah.

But getting back to the Monday I suddenly had all to myself, I decided to drive to Galveston and visit with an old high school friend who runs an antique shop there. It was one of those unannounced visits that turned out well because his home is right above the store. So, even though he takes Monday’s off, he came downstairs, pulled up a chair, and we told stories to one another and made plans for future adventures.

So, all in all, despite the scheduling setbacks, my trip to Houston was a success. Got my tests, saw my son and his wife, played guitars, and got to drive around my old home town, which I miss. I never was much of a fisherman, but I enjoy the Gulf coast and its sea breezes and passing thunderstorms and the ability to pull up to a shop right by the water and get a pound of fresh shrimp. And I enjoy the memories of old streets, and old homes, and old times with good friends in a place where a life was made to mostly good effect.
