Lights On

I have vanquished the darkness. New lights are in my ceiling. They are flush to the sheet rock rather than dangling down. I have them on at the moment just to see how I like them although I’m not really sure they serve any purpose. In their current configuration they do a better job than the the old lights of lighting up the space we call the dining room and the countertop in the kitchen which should act as a serving space if only I had big dinners. But those are spaces that can live comfortably in darkness. So, I’ll leave them on to see how I like them.

The question now is what to do with the old dangling lights. Currently they lie on the dining room table. In my early years I would have but them in the attic or workroom just in case. But I’m older now and know that just in case seldom arrives. If I put them in the attic, they will just become things to throw away at some point in the future. Better, I think, to dump them in the trash now even though they are still serviceable and that’s the crunch. Throwing away a thing that still works. Seems a small crime. If only I could find someone who might use them.

Maybe I can find a way to use the globes, because that’s the pretty part. They look sort of flower like, so I could put them in the garden at some random spot and let them just weather into the ground. I bet there is some crafty person on the internet from the painted cow brigade that could show me what to do. I’ll look around. In the meantime, I’m just going to bask in the faint glow of success that comes from the successful completion of a home repair project, one of the many I’ve done during my years as a homeowner.
