One, two, three…

Rudbekia Indian Summer, Muhly, Silverleaf Nightshade, miniature Agave

I had a great day yesterday, and I feel good. Listened to live music. Got lots of positive vibes. Had the birthday song sung to me, twice. Talked to all my children. Talked to my grandchildren. I heard from cousins, friends, and neighbors. Drank some wine. Drank some whiskey. Ate a piece of homemade cake with ice cream. And got a hand-drawn birthday card from a sweet little girl. Then, I slept like a baby.

Today is another day, and we’ll see how it goes. But I have a feeling I can coast a long way on the goodwill I accumulated yesterday. Whenever I feel down, I can just go back and scroll through my text messages and social media posts. And then, like Archie Bell and the Drells, I can tighten up. Oh, and did I ever mention I met Archie? Nice man. His cousin worked for the same company I worked for. He was ebullient, and the word was made for him.

I wish there were a way for people to have a birthday every day. I think the world would be a sweet place if we were always walking around telling everyone happy birthday, happy anniversary, congratulations on being alive, you’re doing a splendid job of living, keep it up. Probably too saccharine. But I grew up in the sixties and we had lyrics like come on people smile on your brother, let’s get together and love one another. So, I’m going with sweetness right now because it makes me feel good. Punk and heavy metal can wait, because there will be times, I’m sure, when I want to bang my head.
