Progress

Physical labor is good for what ails ya. I may have to go on a building program. Trimmed tin yesterday on my little shed and got another good night’s sleep. Woke up once for a drink and went right back to sleep. The lying awake time was dedicated to thinking about the next day’s work. Today’s work now, as I sit here writing this. If I were a younger man I might have gotten more done yesterday, but I’ll take what my body gives me.

I have noticed that slowing down a bit and thinking about things pays dividends. The work is hard because a reciprocating saw is a semi-powerful beast and using it with a metal blade to trim old sheets of roofing opens up the mysteries of harmonics and vibrations. Wildness can ensue, but so far I have conquered and learned lessons and they will be put into use today. I have one more wall to trim then I will install the roof. And then it will need trimming.

What’s left will be the finishing work. I want to put in a light or two and I will dress out the interior walls for no particular reason other than I want to and I think it will look nice. I have no idea why I think a pump house should look like the Taj Mahal, but my son and I even talked about painting it to match the other outbuilding, the workroom. Seemed totally reasonable and I know we’ll do it, because it feels right and it will make the pump house a nice backdrop for the wildflowers when they come to the backlots next spring.
