Rain Day

Walked outside this morning to the sight of rain on the drive and the sound of water running down the gutters. Exciting stuff. Checked the rain gauge real quick and found no measurable precipitation. That was a little disappointing. So, I went back inside in case the falling rain was too embarrassed to do it while someone was watching. I hope it falls some more. That would be nice.

Had a long, pleasant ride home from Marathon and a long, slow evening of recovery yesterday. Talked to my daughter. While I was picking and grinning in West Texas, she and her brother were playing with a band right here in the hometown. She was on bass; he was on the pedal steel guitar. We’re planning a musical family get together this fall. I’d like to fill the house with joyful noise again. I can hardly wait. Plus, I want to see all my children all at once. Sounds greedy, I know, but so what.

I hope this week is uneventful. That’s my plan, which is really no plan. I still have projects to do, and one may well present itself, depending on how I feel. But at this very moment I sort of feel like letting life swing along with me in attendance and see how that goes. Besides, it’s a fool’s errand to think you’re really in charge because no matter what you want, you’re going to get what you get. Which is not to say you shouldn’t try hard and have goals, but you need to be prepared for every outcome.
