Rainy Day

It’s raining this morning. The sky is gray. The air is cold. We’ve had nearly an inch of precipitation fall in the last several days. I have been remiss in emptying the gauge and checking the amounts, so I don’t know what came today or what came earlier. It’s just what I see now, and I’m reporting it. The rain is, to me, the best kind. Slow and gentle. I think the trees like to take a drink through their leaves every once in a while. This is their chance for a long one.

As for myself, I had a long drink from the cup of friendship this past weekend. Went to a party. Went to a house concert. Went to hear music at a local venue. Went to dinner with friends. At the venue, I was invited to offer a few of my songs to the mix and audience in attendance. Two people dropped tips in the can while I played, neither of which suggested I chose another line of work. That was sort of cool. I’m pretty sure, however, the money was for the artist, Chad Richard, who asked me to play. But I’ll indulge my fantasy and he’ll let me because he’s a nice man.

Today, I’m taking stock, taking a massage, and planning for the week. It’s a big one. On Wednesday, National Adoption Day, my daughter, and her husband will finalize their adoption of two little ones. On Saturday there will be new family portraits made. On Sunday there’s a party. I love parties, especially one celebrating two children finding a permanent home. That certainly seems reason to celebrate. I’d say we’ll kick out the jams, but it’s more likely we’ll simply be drunk on love.
