Road Trip

I forgot the joys of traveling on a holiday weekend. Luckily, there are none. Yesterday, it was just traffic, like turtles, all the way down. We came to dead stops on numerous occasions, on freeways and byways and roads in between. It was stop and go through Giddings. There was a big crowd at Buc-ees. The sort you see on football weekends. There were people wandering around aimlessly. I even heard someone asking, where are the cash registers?

I just shut down my mind and took it all like a man, which is probably inappropriate, because I seem to recall as a young man getting pretty exasperated. But I’m older now and I hope wiser. I slowed down and tried not to rush. There wasn’t much to look at, however, because it was a gray day, and when there’s lots of traffic, gazing out the window can be dangerous. So, there may have been sights, I just didn’t see them. I did notice, however, the pine trees on 21 as you head into Bastrop from 290 are getting taller, which is nice. I used to like the tunnel effect the road had before the days of the big fire.

There was even traffic in my little town with the two lights. But I made it home. Fed the cats. Cleaned the pool and picked up the mail. The latter was fun. The new canopy for my pool deck came in as did my new guitar strings. The canopy will go up today, I hope. And the strings go into my guitar case. I like to keep two sets. No idea why. Anyway, no more driving for me, until Sunday when I go to my cousin’s house for Easter dinner, but it’s just down the road a tiny bit and it should be an easy trip.
