Road Work

Well, well, well. My little town of Johnson City has an upgrade. Highway 290, as it travels about five blocks through the city, now has a turn lane. Big improvement. The stoplight at 290 and Nugent will no longer be such a bottleneck, coming or going. Yeah. They did the work on the day of my cataract surgery last week. It actually makes all the difference. I didn’t check to see if they changed the stoplight to put in a turn signal. I’ll do that today.

Of course, there’s no longer space for parking along the main drag, but that’s okay as far as I’m concerned. Unsure how the few businesses along the street feel. Probably less than pleased, but I don’t suppose TxDot really cares. Getting through town was hard with just one lane and it and was slowing down the tourist trade heading to Fredericksburg and environs to get their buzz on at the local wineries. Now, we’re less of an impediment to their merry travels.

Of course, it’s less of an impediment for me, too. So that’s good. Nothing like a little self interest to smooth the pangs of progress. I know there are probably people who wish we drove on dirt roads because that might keep people out, but I have bad news for them. People come no matter what you do, and they bring improvements with them, because that’s just how it works. And now, we’re improved, and I approve, and I’m certain someone at TxDot will print this out and put it into the file to show how the citizenry feels about their efforts on our behalf.
