The Caregiver’s Tales
Tiny essays on life, nature, grief and other things that catch my fancy in the Texas Hill Country. Here’s how it all got started.

Sky Day
I slept hard but not so long last night, and there were no dreams I remember. It was just the usual. Asleep at ten. Awake and two. Asleep at four and awake at six.
Touches
Talk about answered prayers. Yesterday the wind laid down, and I laid down with it. Together we floated in a pool of blue water beneath the sky.

Sky Watch
Got up early yesterday, drove in the dark to meet my brother to play golf. We did. Ate lunch. Came home.
A Cloud Story
I saw a cloud Friday evening. It had the shape of a leaf, standing on end. I could see veins and the midrib.
Being There
Timing. One day I can walk out the back door and there’s a brilliant sunset for the viewing. On another I can walk out and the clouds are a steel gray and the sun is gone and whatever light painted them colors is someone else’s memory.
The Way to Look at It
Went looking for beauty yesterday. Needed to flush some adrenaline from my system. Started on the back porch in the morning.
