There’s More

Crape myrtle after a rain.

At one point after high school, I worked for Ma Bell. We worked in teams of two. I was the junior member, obviously. We listened to a lot of radio, mostly country, but some talk, and the talk was always Paul Harvey. Those guys loved Paul. I liked his stories, too. I say this because I started a story yesterday about what I did Monday, and now it’s time, as Paul would say, for the rest of the story.

After I finished all my phone calls upon returning home, Monday evening. I turned on my TV. I discovered, on doing so, it no longer felt connected to the receiver previously projecting it’s sound to my wonderful new, speakers. At some point, in my absence, they’d had an argument and were no longer talking to one another. I think a flashy bolt of lightning distracted them from their electrical marriage. I piddled and fussed, read up on stuff, searched the internet to no avail. Finally, I called my guru. Unplug them, he said, wait ten minutes. I did. It worked they talked. Bonus, the Alexa device also began talking to the receiver. My electrical family was once again whole.

It sounds a lot like marriage or relationships. You get all twisted off in some tiny obscure argument or even something big. It’s silence and you’re ready to throw everything in the trash, kick the kids out the door and start over. Then you unplug, take a break, get a good night’s sleep and the next morning you can’t really remember why you quit taking to each other, and even the big thing seems relatively small, because you remember why you liked the person in the first place and that was bigger than everything, so you pick up and keep on going, and once again life is all music and bright pictures and fun. And now you know the rest of the story!
