This and That

Lost a limb from the sumac to the storms the other day. Just stripped it right off. That’s okay. It’s a fast-growing bushy little tree and it can spare limbs. I still need to finish the job. That’s the thing about mother nature and weakness. She’s happy to point it out, but generally speaking when she tears off a limb a human has to finish the job because the tree is like, wait, don’t do that, and hangs on with its bark. Oh well, another contribution to the brush pile.

My rain gauge, meanwhile, is at 4.5 inches, which is a lot of rain for August in the Hill Country and sort of makes me wish I’d been keeping daily track since we moved here in 2009. But that’s one of those things that is fascinating to find (a daily rainfall record), but hard to accomplish and I’m afraid my discipline for something like that is sorely lacking, and maybe not even sorely, just lacking as in totally.

I’m going to attempt yard work today, depending on what the weather allows, because I have company this weekend, and if I wait, it will make for a nightmare Friday and I know what that’s like. At some point, maybe tomorrow, I’m even going to power wash the porches. They’ve needed it for some time, and this is a good excuse to get it done. Plus, it’s something I can do even if it does rain because, well, water. At the moment, however, I’m going to get a bite of breakfast and then take a walk. Cheers, everyone, have a great day.
