Tool Time

I had a good weekend of manly work, mainly working on my heavy equipment. And by heavy, I mean my zero turn mower, which is heavy in the sense that I can’t really pick it up. But I digress. I have discovered over time that a lot of manly work is redoing previous manly work because sometimes when you do manly work you get in a hurry and forget to pay attention to small details, like the position of your new mower blades. I put them on upside down.

Now the weird thing about this is that even upside down they still managed to cut grass because they’re steel and spinning at a really high rate of speed, and what chance does grass stand. Still, they work better when the sharp part of the blade is facing the direction of the spin which didn’t happen because I put them on upside down. So, I had to drop the deck, pull it out from beneath the mower, flip it over and flip the blades. Then I had to reconnect everything which mean lying in the dirt. Like I said, manly work.

Of course, it’s all very gratifying because I got to use my compressor and impact driver, which is just the handiest tool I’ve ever owned. Bolts stand no chance when that banging pressure is applied, and I applied it. And to top the weekend off, I guess because I was using power tools, I bought something I’ve always wanted, a variable speed bench grinder. Now I can count on one hand the times I’ve needed one, but when you need it, you need it, and now I’ve got it. And since I’m now really good at dropping that mower deck, I have the tool to keep those blades really sharp. Watch out world, I’ve got tools!
