Travel Day

Heading north to Wichita. I wonder if any of my relatives ever drove cattle this way. Probably not. Although I do have an old branding iron from one of them. Most likely they simply watched the drovers head off and then went back to their business. Anyway, just spent the night in McKinney visiting relatives, and I’ll head out later this morning.

It should be smooth sailing down a relatively straight road, and I’ll be able to do in five hours what a herd of cattle probably took five weeks to do. I wonder if that’s really progress or simply a change in circumstances? Matters not what I think, however, what’s done is done and we are where we are, and no one really asked me because I wasn’t around. That takes all the pressure off.

On a secondary travel note, I’ve decided to travel in silence, no background radio. Just me and the car and the road noise and the scenery. Less distractions, which is probably good for a driver of my age, especially on unfamiliar roads where paying attention might be at a premium and slow reaction times cause for steep penalties. At least that’s the plan, we’ll see how it plays out on the open road today. Wish me luck.
