Travel Day
I had a thrill this morning. I’m on the road. Woke up as I usually do at 5:30. Jumped out of bed, turned on the light, and opened my computer bag. No laptop. Sent a text to home, asking the daughter if the laptop was still on my desk. She’s still asleep, however, so no satisfaction there. Then, I thought to look in the truck I was traveling in, and there on the floor behind the front seat was said laptop. Satisfaction. Apparently, yours truly failed to zip the bag fully closed and said laptop attempted its escape as equipment and luggage got jostled around yesterday.
And now here I am typing away, drinking a cup of coffee and getting ready for a busy day. I’m part of a team live streaming Songwriter Serenade direct from Schulenberg, Texas. It promises to be a long fun day of music, friendship, and technology. It’s probably work better suited to younger legs, but I’m ready. And just now, one of the youngsters traveling with us climbed up into my lap. So, typing is a bit of a challenge, but who can refuse a small child who wants to cuddle. Not me.
And now her mother has taken the child to sit on the swing on the front porch and typing is a tad bit easier. And maybe when I’m done, I’ll go sit with them on the swing on the front porch, and it makes me think I should put a swing on my front porch back home. Because it is really satisfying to sit on a swing and contemplate the day, maybe it’s the movement, maybe it’s the rocking. I don’t know, but swings are satisfying, and I’m done here, because there’s a swing waiting in the cool morning air. And I’m going to go there while my coffee is still hot and there’s a chill in the air.
