Windy Day
West Texas followed me home. It kicked up on Sunday when we left Lajitas. High winds scoured the land and lifted sand and soil into the air. We out drove it, but the system kept on moving east, until it got here yesterday. There was a thunderstorm in the night, then wind, mighty wind, too. Things flew around, fences came loose, and I lost sight of the hills out my back windows.
I kept the fences in one piece with the help of my son and even managed a bit of tree trimming yard work at the east end of the house where I was sheltered from the wind. The Orchid tree had run amuck and needed to be brought back under control. I also pulled up a visiting Lantana that had rooted in an odd spot by the porch steps. The wind quieted down overnight, so I’ll start piling brush this morning.
At some point I’ll need to reduce my brush pile, which is growing at an alarming rate as I prune sumacs and orchid trees. Burning is the preferred method in this neck of the woods, but I’d rather not be the guy who starts the fire that burns down the town. So, I’m trying to find someone to haul it off or come in and mulch it. This is when I could use a big truck and a16 foot trailer with four foot sides, but I’m not that country even though I sing a country song or two. So, I just keep cuttin’ and lookin’ and trying to figure it out. And that’s the story of my life. Trying to figure things out.
