Work Day
I plumbered and carpentered yesterday. The heavy wind of the latest cold front blew apart the gate of the big fence around the back lots, specifically the latch. Ripped everything apart. I replaced all the lumber involved and put the catch for the bolt right onto the metal frame of the gate. It’s stout now. A hard freeze the other day caught me by surprise. I forgot to turn off and drain the well. It, too, is in the back lots. The freeze blew apart the PVC piping. I made a trip to the big box store, bought all the parts, and put everything back together.
The gate is working. I’m going to let the well sit silent for awhile and let the PVC cement set up. No sense rushing to turn things back on. Another hard freeze is on the way. It’s winter boys. Of course, the hard freeze will soon be followed by another warming trend. Winter tends to pulse around here. Hot then cold. Hot then cold. Make’s it bearable. There are other parts of the country where winter comes and just sits around like a lousy house guest, refusing to leave.
It’s nice to have energy again. I started yesterday off by walking over to the courthouse to renew my vehicle registration. It’s a little over half a mile from the house. I added on some extra distance by walking around town and into the park before heading home. It’s nice to live in a little town where you can walk places. We should all do more walking but everything is designed for the car and that’s what we’ve got, and it’s hard to overcome that. I understand. But come for a visit. We’ll go for a walk. And you can see what its like here.
