Working Outside
I worked outside yesterday and at the end of the day I was worn out from the wind. I’ve had days of it blowing from the west and the north and now it’s blowing from the south. And it’s blowing hard, and making loud noises, and tumping things over. It’s like walking down a crowded sidewalk or jostling through people at a big music event. You’re pushed and beat upon. I’ve breathed dust from every part of Texas, and none of it feels good for me. I want it to stop.
Of course, I know how that works. I just checked the forecast and I’m in for another day of it. We have a red flag warning, too. The fire threat is high. I suspect that will define our summer. No rain. Wind. Fire. I think this is how forested areas turn into deserts. And the hill country isn’t really forested. It has trees for sure, but they’re semi-sparse, so if they burn, and no rain continues to come, the ground dries from the sun and lack of shade, and I think you can see where this is going.
So, this is me harping again about the dryline moving east two degrees from the 98th to the 100th meridian as the climate continues to warm and our creeks, rivers, and lakes dry up. And now this is starting to feel really grouchy, and I’d prefer not to start my day that way. I think it will suffice to say, I’m beat up from the wind and let it go at that, and I’ll give it another go today, to see how I do, because, well, I like working outside, and this is my chance.
