Digging and Cleaning
I’m doing a pretty great job at tearing up things. I spent most of yesterday digging out 80 lbs of dried cement from an old post hole. The post in question had rotted. In retrospect, I could have tried to simply clean out that hole and slip a new pole into the dried cement. Not sure how that would have worked. I have a second slug of concrete tentatively scheduled for today. Then I’ll take a shot at replacing the old fence. It’s pretty straightforward from there.
On the less strenuous work front I’m cleaning off insulating material from the PVC that runs from the well to the tank. Tedious business. I wish I’d never put the stuff on in the first place. Mostly, it was there to protect me from surprise freezes. To keep from wrecking my back, I might make that my job of choice this fine Sunday. I’m also going to replace the faucets. They’re leaking, and new faucets are inexpensive.
Last night, as I rested from my labors, I watched Texas play A&M. It was nice to see the old rivalry renewed. It was a one off thing, however, because the college football landscape no longer makes any sense to me. All the leagues are national in scope and every football team is paying players the same way SMU did right before they got the death penalty from the NCAA in 1987. Of course, I still love my team from the University of Houston, and I’m hoping their new coach has them going in the right direction. Time will tell, as it always does, from football to fence posts.
