Hot’s Here

I believe summer is finally beginning. It is warm this morning. And there’s nary a breeze. I like my morning’s cool. There is still plenty of evidence for the recent rains. The sage is blooming, the grass is still green, but I believe the heat is on its way. After last summer, I promised myself I would go north rather than bake every day. We’ll see. I guess it depends on how far I have to drive. Sometimes it’s hard to overcome inertia.

So far, my only planned trip is Marathon in August which seems counter intuitive, but it’s a nice music festival and a great gathering of friends and I like big Bend. Plus, I can always slip away to Balmorhea for a swim. And it’s a dry heat, I say with a chuckle. Maybe it’s being on the move that gives me the illusion of cool. Whatever. I’m going.

Meanwhile, I have my own little pool which got out of hand this winter when I decided to disconnect the pump and leave the pool uncovered. That’s not a mistake I’ll repeat. Things grew and things collected, and I’m still trying to get my water swimmable. It’s coming around, but it’s been a trek. On the upside, however, it may reach clarity just in time for the heat. So, I’ll just keep plodding along pretending I know what I’m doing, which feels par for the course.
