Normal Activities

Oh, me. Just a yawn. It’s a frosty morning. Bright sunlight. Seems a good day to be outside, actually. I may take a walk later. I’ve been slightly remiss in that regard. Mostly, I suppose, because I’ve been cogitating about my upcoming aneurysm repair. Hardly a surgery because basically they’re going to poke a hole in my leg and thread the goods into place. That seems insanely simple until you think about how many times you’ve tried to screw in a light bulb when you couldn’t see the socket or watched an inept tech try to draw blood.

But the surgeon doing the work is the guy writing the book on the subject, a teacher, with tons of experience. Feels pretty comforting. I joke that I may be driving a 2016 Camry but when it comes to my surgeons, I’ve got Lamborghinis. And I’ve got them, not because I’m rich, but because I have friends who recommended them, and I have Medicare and decent supplemental insurance. So, maybe I am rich in that I’m fortunate in the people around me and the system put in place to protect me. Blessings.

I guess, in a sense, I’m also lucky that I chose to frequent doctors over the course of my life. Because this type of aneurysm is usually discovered when it fails. And in my case, it probably would have failed in the next year or two and no one would have said, oh, he died so young. It would have seemed relatively normal. So, from my perspective this repair job is me going in to file an extension to my lease on life, and they’re telling me it should get me to whatever normal end is waiting. And in the meantime, I’ll be able to resume normal activities. Huzzah!
