School Day

I’ve been powerless. Got to Houston. Started to write. Realized my power adapter was still in the Hill Country. The battery on my laptop drained quicker than I could write. I ordered a replacement on-line. It came yesterday. Twenty watts too low, despite digital claims of compatibility. I returned it. Went to a big box store. Found a universal adapter. Just right. Now it will stay permanently in my computer bag.

I could have done that Saturday but decided to surrender to fate and let my digital life be. I hung with the kids, went to the park, had movie night and waited until they were in school yesterday to go shopping. Its been a good three days, mainly spent indulging their desires as to places to eat out. My tour of duty ends today when the daughter returns home from a business trip. I’ll head home in the morning after one last shuttle trip to school.

My duties today will mainly consist of watching the gutter guys work. They’re tearing out old gutters, replacing damaged fascia boards, and filling holes where the squirrels have tried to find a home. I’m pretty good at this sort of thing, watching other guys work. In this case, it reminds me of my early days as a homeowner, the days of more time than money, when I did similar work on occasion. Before they get here today, I have to get the kids to school, and that’s what I’m getting ready do right this minute. It’s time for breakfast.
