Seeking Answers

There might be forces at play in the world today that are beyond my understanding. And I might be willing to subscribe to a conspiracy theory if I could find one. At the moment I feel like a mammal in the age of dinosaurs, tiny, underfoot, and out of sight. The titans of our age are galloping across the stage, trumpeting like bull elephants, and the only thing I am to them is a number in a data set.

And it appears they want me riled up, because that’s engagement and along the way I might buy a decal or a mug. They make money. I suspect the only answer is to turn off my phone, permanently, but that would feel pretty naked. I do know I could probably do with a lot less social media in the same way I’ve stopped watching TV. But it’s harder because the phone is free and TV now costs money.

Luckily, the government has decided I no longer need TikTok, that’s one app down, although that’s still up in the air from what I hear. I have no idea how the app poses a national security threat if all it’s doing is collecting my personal data.. I guess it’s only OK if it’s a US company that knows everything about me. It’s undeniable that technology, in a lot of instances, has made life easier, but it seems as though we’ve lost sight of the human element, sort of like we did during the industrial revolution when it was all about the machine. I hope we find an answer in what’s left of my lifetime, but I suspect it might take a bit longer than that.
