Shake It Up

Whew. What a weekend. The temperature stayed in double digits. There were clouds. And music. And friends from New Braunfels, to Luckenbach, to Grapetown Road. At the end, we danced. That was fun. Normally my dancing gene has an override switch called Everyone Is Looking and it maintains pretty tight control. But it can be turned off with C2H5OH, alcohol, and then my dancing gene channels the Contours and off we go. Do you love me now that I can dance? Sure. Let’s do this.

Anyway, the secret once the switch is off is to lighten up on the C2H5OH, because things can get really stupid, fast if you fail to do that. You want to be able to keep the grove and feel your body move, with purpose. Of course, at one point yesterday, I realized I was no longer as young as I used to be, and I had to slow down a bit. But not too much, and I was back to spinning and turning and twirling with all the pretty girls, and then happy Fourth of July.

Anyway, I got a good night’s sleep. Nothing feels damaged in the way of muscles this morning. And right now, I’d like to thank my mom for sending me to dance class in the sixth grade, although I confess that my main focus was slow dancing because no one really did the bunny hop and it might have been too early in the history of rock and roll to teach be-bop. Eventually, I learned to cha-cha and do the twist, and that’s stood me in good stead over the years, particularly the twist. And that’s it for today. How was your Fourth?
