Shelves and Songs

Had a good day yesterday. Bought some shelving to use for my garage storage. I’d been looking at cabinets with doors, but that’s pretty much an invitation to critters of all sorts to call the place home as I discovered with my old wooden cabinets. So, I decided on an open format. Things will be easy to see, and it will cut down on my tendency to use the shelves as a dumping place.

I’m going to put the shelves together this morning. I have all the parts laid out on sawhorses to keep bending over to a minimum. I have some things to move around first. It’s important to stage the work area. But once the work gets started it should be fairly simple. The shelves will hold up to 5,000 pounds and they mostly just lock into place. Sounds simple, but I’ve been deceived before. So, I’m keeping an open mind and doing my best to follow instructions. Because the worst thing you can do is think, I’ve got this, only to discover it has you, and that instructions are really helpful.

The rest of the good day was consumed by a drive into Austin, a dose of falling rain, and a chance to hear a friend play music while visiting with another friend from Michigan, a musician as well. The feeling inside the club was cool and casual and most of the audience knew one another and the musicians and even though there was a problem with the stage lighting, the songs poured forth and we all went away happy. Although I probably should speak only for myself and say I went away happy. Because I did, and the drive home in the twilight, was nice too, and that made me happy as well.
