The Process

Yesterday I was looking at my life in terms of continental drift which seems pretty appropriate. Over the millennia of earths existence land masses have risen and fallen and crashed into one another. As they do they raise mountains and give birth to new seas as the oceans of the world slosh about. Through it all wind and rain scour the planet trying to flatten everything out.

That’s how my life has been. Me a little continent banging into other people raising mountains, raising families crashing into other little continents of people doing the same. And sometimes we slide by each other and sometimes we blend together and become something totally different. And along the way the rains come, and the winds blow, and we age and shrink and soften. And we watch other little continents come up to begin their processes.

And through it all we look back at where we’ve been and remember the dead seas, and the rain smoothed mountains of our lives, think of the rivers that flowed. And remember the grandeur of our youth when we stood tall with sharp edges not yet realizing that down follows up and nothing is forever in it’s current form. We are simple matter and energy always on the way to becoming something else.
