Work Hand
The year of the medical procedure continues. Skin surgery. I had a squamous cell carcinoma removed from the back of my right hand yesterday. Unfortunately, I tarried a bit in getting it checked out. So, they removed a bit more of my body than they would have if I had been more diligent. Still, it’s gone, and I have a nice blue bandage to show for the effort. I get a full body check up next month and I will be more diligent going forward.
The surgeon said hands heal pretty quickly, I guess because the body knows we need them. The pain is mostly localized. It was pretty intense yesterday as the nerves woke up and wondered, what the hell just happened. Still, I can type. So, that’s good. No heavy lifting for two weeks. That’s inconvenient. But I can do it. I’m not hard-headed about doctors and their orders. I thought I might get a conversational scar out of the ordeal, but she said, no. Again, hands and how they heal.
I guess the lesson, as in all lesson’s medical, is that sooner is better than later. When you see something, or feel something, don’t guess or ignore it, ask a professional. Of course, sometimes life gets in the way and procrastination overcomes us, as it did me in this case. But as the doctor said when I finally showed it to her, you’re here now and that’s good. And it was, and I got it taken care of, and I know I’ll do better next time. Because this aging body enjoys aging and living and thinks it’s pretty much fun and wants to do more of it.
