The Caregiver’s Tales
Tiny essays on life, nature, grief and other things that catch my fancy in the Texas Hill Country. Here’s how it all got started.

A Time Question
It feels nice when the air of the day you greet is sweet and cool as it is this morning. It gives you hope that softer weather is on the way.
Hot’s Here
I believe summer is finally beginning. It is warm this morning. And there’s nary a breeze. I like my morning’s cool.
New Memories
I had about a week to remember what it was like in the early days of my marriage when space heaters were the thing, and nights were spent under mountains of quilts. It was a nice trip down memory lane, but I’m ready for my modern conveniences.
Action!
Had a good day in the yard yesterday, despite the heat. It was actually invigorating if you count being drenched in sweat invigorating. But I had chores to do, and I wanted to do them, so I did.
Rain Day
I was out on the deck yesterday when a little rain squall blew through. A bit of rain just for us. It fell hard, then stopped. Then started up again a few minutes later. Maybe it was two squalls.
A Good Break
I made a pot of beans yesterday. Which seems relatively mundane until you realize it took a crock pot eight hours to do it. And yesterday there were people unable to even heat themselves much less run a crock pot for eight hours.
