The Caregiver’s Tales
Tiny essays on life, nature, grief and other things that catch my fancy in the Texas Hill Country. Here’s how it all got started.

Nice Times
I pretended I was a working man yesterday. Mowed. Edged. Cleaned up the yard. It was cool and the weeds were tall, but I got it done. Then I watched the big game.
School Days
Drove to Houston yesterday. Watched the Cougars play football. Drove home. We ate lunch at Tony’s in Sealy on the way and grabbed Taco’s Supreme at Taco Bell on the way home. We lost the football game. I don’t believe it was my fault.
Lunch
Ah, the big game, for us. Houston against Texas. Football. It’s always fun to beat them, but we’ve only done it seven times. So, it’s definitely not a habit.
Game Time
Yesterday was a good day. In the morning, I got Wordle in two. In the afternoon, I got to Houston to visit my daughter and the two grandkids, and last night Altuve homered in the ninth and the Astro’s won.
Game Time
Went to a college football game last night. That’s about all I can say. We lost. I can tell you why. The other team out scored us. Pretty simple actually.
Game Day
My college team won its opening game this year. Beat our cousins from San Antonio. Although most of my actual cousins from San Antonio are Aggies or Red Raiders.
The Good Fight
Relatively easy drive into Houston. Hard loss to watch with the Astros. Of course, they’ve never won a game one of the World Series, so hope is not lost.
The Loss
Three friends. More than fifty years together. Lots of laughs. Lots of parties. Lots of dancing. Lots of football. Yesterday we sat there together on our metal seats, backs against the concourse wall. Comfortable.
Football
Football weekend. My longtime friend Tom and I made the trip into Houston yesterday. We’re ready to watch our Houston Cougars take on the Kansas Jayhawks.
Slowing Down
Word has a new look. Yippee. I’ve been through more new looks over the years than I can count.
